- No, that is not the man's name; that is the name of the medicine that Becky takes every week to help Baby Sister's platelet count be at a normal count at birth.
Kirk is the home health nurse who comes to Becky's house every Friday to administer the medicine, called IVIG, intraveineously. As you can see, the needle is inserted into her hand (her veins are very small, so every week the needle has to go into the same vein). She then must lay or sit on the couch so that the bag can stay higher than her hand for the 3 - 5 hours that the infusion takes.
This week was her 14th treatment; she is 26 weeks toward the 40 weeks of a full term pregnancy, so she is at least over half through with her treatments. Doctors at Vanderbilt have said they will consider delivering by week 38 or 39.
Not a fun date to look forward to!
