I loved Lucy

August 10, 2007

Today was a very sad day for us; we had to say goodbye to our dear Lucy, who was really Becky's dog, but who had spent a great part of her life with Mom and me. Becky and I joked that we had joint custody for years; then last year I sorta got sole custody. We loved that crazy, funny, happy, and personable little dog in a way that you really shouldn't love a pet. She was a part of our family, a nurse and "doorbell" for Mom, and an awesome protector. Everybody knew Lucy; we've already had a package delivered today (thanks, Courtney!), and the delivery man asked about her. She was "first on the scene" when anyone came to the door, barking and telling anyone who would listen that someone was here. She was also first to make friends, and never missed greeting you at the door with a tennis ball or sock in her mouth.
She lived 10 years and almost 4 months, and succumbed today to canine lymphoma. We will miss her terribly, but we will never forget her!
Rest in peace, dear Lucy!
